Got questions?

After reading this page, go to our "Registration" page to register as a consignor.

The following links are for registered consignors only:

A few good reasons why people consign their gently used children’s clothing, toys and maternity wear with us:
  • Your participation helps support worthy missions benefiting local needy women and children.

  • We offer one of the highest proceeds split for consignors of any sale or shop in the Triangle area. You keep 70% of the sale price of each item that sells. We retain 30% for local missions.

  • Low consignor fee of $5.00.

  • Quick turn-around: Thursday p.m/Friday a.m. Drop-off; Friday/Saturday Sell & Shop; Saturday afternoon Pick-up. You’re done!

  • Get paid fast! We plan to distribute checks at consignor pick-up.
  • One of the few places left that will accept maternity clothing for consignment.
  • New for 2012!  We have a new online system to make your consigning experience easier and our check-out faster and more accurate.

Consignor Information

1) Register to consign by following the "Registration" link on the left-hand side of this page.

2) After you receive your registration confirmation email, click the "Registered Consignor Login" link at the top of this page.  This takes you to your Consignor Homepage.

3) From your Consignor Homepage, go to "Select a Drop-Off Appointment" and choose which day/time you would like.  (Clicking "Drop-Off Appointments" at the top of this page will also take you to the same page.)

4) To create and print tags, go to "Work with Consigned Inventory" from your Consignor Homepage.  (Clicking "Make and Print Tags" at the top of this page will also take you to the same page.)
  • For the Spring/Summer 2012 sale, no one will have any "Inactive Inventory" because there are no past sales in the system.
  • For items that are labeled with a size range (i.e. 9-12 months), select the larger size (12M in this case). If an item seems to fit small or large, indicate that on the tag using "Description Line 2"; for example, "size 4 but fits like a 5".
  • For non-clothing items, select "Leave Blank" from the pull-down menu for "Size".  If you forget and end up putting a size for those items, it really doesn't matter.  The "Leave Blank" option is close to the bottom of the pull-down menu.
  • The bar codes on our tags contain three pieces of information - your consignor number, the price you set for the item, and the item's number from your inventory.   Do not fill out any of your tags by hand.  For example, do not set the price at "zero" and then fill it out by hand, because the tag will scan as $0.  All information for each item needs to be entered online as you are creating the tags.
  • If you have several of the same/similar item to sell (example: four size 5 t-shirts for $1 each),  you may create several identical tags at one time by choosing the quantity of that tag you need. Each of those tags will automatically be assigned its own Item Number. Please do NOT create just one tag and then make copies for all of your similar items. Our check-out system is only able to scan an Item Number once, and using copied tags would result in duplicate Item Numbers that can not be scanned at checkout.
  • Both the required "Description Line 1" and the optional "Description Line 2" have a 24 character limit each.
  • Price items in $0.50 increments. Items priced at approximately 1/4 of the original price sell well, but also consider the age and condition of each item when setting the price.
  • On Saturday we offer a half-price discount to help clear out what has not already sold.  If you would like your item to be discounted half-price on Saturday, check the box for "Check To Discount".
    • If you would like for the item to be donated to charity should it not sell, check the box for "Check To Donate".  We donate items with the tags still on.  Unsold items that are not marked for donation will be sorted and returned you to at pick-up.
    • Print tags on card stock. Tags made of regular paper will not be accepted.  You may use white card stock or colored, as long as the color is a very light color (so our scanners will work).  Make sure all your tags are the same color to ensure proper sorting.

    .
    3) Attach the tag to your item.
    • You may use safety pins or zip ties (available at home improvement stores and discount department stores) but for safety reasons do not use straight pins.  Items with straight pins will be pulled off the sales floor.
    • Place clothing items on a wire hanger and face the hanger to the left so it makes a question mark.  We do not have extra hangers on hand at the sale.  Dry cleaners usually will give you hangers for free if you ask them.
    • When hanging pants and skirts, use safety pins to attach the waists to the top of the hanger, as in this video
    • Place the tag on the upper-right section of the garment whenever possible.
    • Place accessories such as hats, socks, onesies, etc. in Ziploc bags and tape tag to the bag with clear shipping tape.

    • Use clear shipping tape to attach tag to toys and equipment.

    • For toys with small parts, place parts in Ziploc bag, tape it closed and tape securely to the toy.

    4) Sort and group your items by size and gender to make drop-off easier. The following items will be located on separate racks, so plan accordingly:
    • Spring/Summer sale:  Dress-up (includes costumes, dancewear, leotards), light jackets, swimsuits
    • Fall/Winter sale:  Dress-up (includes costumes, dancewear, leotards), coats and jackets, ski bibs
    5) It is the consignor's responsibility to check whether items have been recalled before bringing them to the sale. Refer to our "Safety" page for more information. Recalled items may NOT be sold at The Friendship Closet. If we find any recalled items on the sales floor, they will be removed immediately.

    6) Drop off your items during the drop-off appointment you registered for.
    • Check in with the volunteer at the front table when you arrive.
    • New for 2012!   You must check in using our computer system at the front table before you drop off your items. If you do not, your items will not show up in our system and can't be sold.  Please do NOT place any items on the sales floor before you have checked in.
    • You will be responsible for placing your items in the designated areas on the sales floor.
    • Using the bin labels and tape we provide you at check-in, label your boxes/bins and leave them with us. Your boxes/bins will be returned to you at pick-up along with any unsold items.  We must have a box/bin for each consignor UNLESS you are donating ALL unsold items.
    7) Shop the sale and encourage your friends to shop. The more shoppers everyone recruits, the more money we all make!

    8) Pick up your unsold items on Saturday, March 3 from 2:00-3:00pm. Items not picked up by 3pm will become the property of the Friendship Circle at Apex United Methodist Church, regardless of whether or not they have been marked for donation to charity or marked for half-price.  There are no exceptions. If you are unable to pick up your unsold items you may send a friend or family member, but please note that we cannot be held responsible if this person is unable to identify your items or fails to pick-up all of your unsold items.
